9th Grade Humanities
On this page you will find all of my classroom resources and important documents such as my syllabus, content schedule and other important logistical documents (permission slips, parent letters, schedules, etc.). I've included a brief description below from my syllabus that explains the overview of my class.
Ms. Shirk's 9th Grade Humanities
Our Humanities class this year will be a combination of English Language Arts (ELA) and social science concepts. We will be reading and analyzing various forms of literature in order to understand patterns and archetypes in writing. Students will also explore their written expression through various genres. My main goal for the ELA aspect of the course is to help students create thoughtful responses to literature, help foster and develop students as well as finding their voice and style as a writer, and empower each student to feel confident as a growing writer.
The social science concepts will be viewed through an anthropological lens. Students will explore different peoples of the world by their geographic regions, cultural aspects, language (acquisition and evolution), family structures, political and economic life and religions/rituals. My goal for the social science aspects of the class is to broaden my students’ perspectives of the world, as well as introducing them to different cultural groups and their traditions in order to make geography a more meaningful and applicable skill.
